      <image:title>About Us - Our Vision</image:title>
<image:caption>The Diocese of Bunbury has recently reviewed and renewed its Vision and the Strategies to meet that Vision. The vision of the Diocese and its member Churches is to be God's church for God's world by loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and our neighbour as ourselves. There are four Strategies to aid in the meeting of this Vision. Deepening and growing our prayerfulness as individuals, groups and churches. Learning more about Jesus Christ in order to become more like Christ. Growing in love for, and encouragement of, one another (within our churches and diocese). Being salt and light in the places and among the people God has placed us (in our communities).</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our History - Mural</image:title>
<image:caption>The Mural was commissioned by the works supervisor Eustace Eales and painted by Phillip Goatcher in 1922-23. The design of the Mural in All Saints Church, Collie was influenced by Mrs Noyes who had donated the funds for the Mural (500 Pounds). Mrs Noyes requested the inclusion of figures of coalminers and Aboriginal people. The Mural is oil on canvas and was painted in Goatcher's studio in Perth with the help of his son James. It was then removed to Collie and fixed to the wall of the Sanctuary via chicken wire and glue. It was dedicated by the then Bishop of Bunbury, Dr C Wilson on 24 June 1923. The theme of the ceiling is the ‘Risen Christ in Heaven’ portrayed by Jesus on his throne in heaven. This representation of Christ is similar to a fresco in St Paul’s Cathedral, London. The characters in the Mural are looking to Christ for direction and help with their labours, this is represented in the theme words “Come unto me all ye that labour”. All the major characters in the Mural are taken from photos or portraits existing at the time. We can not be completely sure of who is who in the mural as the Church records which were housed in the old wooden Church Hall next door to All Saints were lost in a fire in 1932. But word of mouth and the Parish Council Minutes has noted the following. There are 30 figures in the Mural and the Mural focuses on the history of Collie and the history of the Church. From the left there is firstly a tree which is symbolic of the first industry in Collie which was mobile timber milling. Then there are two Aboriginal people, the traditional owners of the land looking into the future possibility questioning the impact of the new arrivals to their land. Next is a Melanesian man holding a spear in one hand and a fuchsia in the other which is a symbol of hope in religious paintings. He stands next to Bishop Patterson who was sent from New Zealand on a missionary journey to Melanesia. Bishop Patterson worked amongst the Melanesian people for ten years before being martyred. There are two judges on either side of the Mural each holding a book of law and looking to Christ for guidance. This is symbolic of the historical connection between the Church and the State. Next to the judge on the left is Bishop Goldsmith the first Bishop of the Bunbury Diocese. This Bishop is looking directly at the church congregation as if to say that the maintenance of this ornate building and Mural is now the responsibility of the people of Collie. There are two Benedictine monks in the Mural, symbolising the historical connection between the Anglican Church and the Catholic Church. St Augustine in red robes is kneeling and also kneeling in white robes is Pope Gregory the First or Gregory the Great as he was known. St Boniface is standing next to the Madonna and child. St Boniface is the patron saint of the Diocese of Bunbury. The depiction of the Madonna and Child is taken from a painting by Raphael. St Paul is on the right hand side of the Madonna and Child. The ‘women behind the men of the church’ are represented by the lady in blue strategically placed behind Pope Gregory the First. There is a photo at the back of All Saints Church of the first drawing that Phillip Goatcher did of what he envisaged the Mural may look like. The women in blue is not in this first drawing. Perhaps Mrs Noyes suggested she be added to recognise the tireless women workers in all churches throughout the ages. There is an unknown Bishop behind the woman in blue who has a very ornate robe, crook and mitre. The kneeling women in brown who has a wreath in her hand represents the agricultural community that was the second industry in Collie. The man with his hat in his hand is Sir John Forrest and he is representing the pastoral community. Finally, Miners are also represented. There is another unknown Bishop that seems to be hiding behind the judge but why this figure is there has been lost. The Dedication Service of the mural was recorded in the Collie Mail on the 29 June and in the Western Mail on the 26th July 1923. In the early 1990’s the roof of the church was leaking badly and had to be replaced. The ceiling above the mural became so badly damaged that the whole ceiling in the Sanctuary had to be repainted. A Committee was formed presided over by Mrs Margaret White to raise funds for a new roof and ceiling restoration. In 1994 Mrs Barbara Cena was hired to clean, restore and repaint the ceiling as well as make any necessary repairs to the Mural. The cost for both projects was approximately $93 000 and many donations were received from the Collie people as well as a generous grant from the Heritage Council of WA.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our History - Replated</image:title>
<image:caption>In 2011, Mrs Margaret White took up the challenge of raising money for replating (rather than repairing) the 6 Candlesticks at a cost of $8 000. Letters were sent out to various Collie organisations and many Collie locals were also willing to support this cause. When the Candlesticks were taken to Perth for recoating (in their natural state) the expert suggested that gold would adhere to the metal in this state for a much longer period than silver. Therefore the Candlesticks were replated in gold.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our History - Donated by Mrs Nora Noyes</image:title>
<image:caption>Elizabeth Lindsay in her book on All Saints Anglican Church (2000) noted that Mrs Noyes donated six matching candlesticks and a crucifix for the altar, not long after the church was complete. The candlesticks are 1.37 metres tall, of a ornate Italian design and date from approximately 1700. The Western Australian Museum (2002) mentioned that the candlesticks are formed in 3 parts, and are made from ‘formed sheet silver over wood’. There is a central iron beam holding the various sections together. The sheet silver is a mix of copper and silver of which 40% is copper, over time copper rich layers (Patina) have formed on the candlesticks and they became resistant to cleaning. By the late 1990’s the Candlesticks had fallen into disrepair with breaks, cracks, dents, holes and deformations. The metal had become thin and frail. Mr Tim Hopwood started a campaign to have the Candlesticks repaired. The West Australian Museum was asked to quote on conserving 4 of the Candlesticks and grants were applied for. But the cost ($20 000) proved too prohibitive for the small congregation.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mother's Union - In the village of Old Alresford in the south of England a young Vicar's wife, Mary Sumner, looked at her first born child. Amazed at the enormous responsibility of nurturing a human life, and conscious of her own inadequacies, she dreamed of a union of mothers coming together regularly for encouragement, support and education. It was not until 1876 that she was able to gather together a group of mothers to discuss her ideas of meeting together to help one another.</image:title>
<image:caption>By 1892 Mothers' Union had reached Australia. More information is available at:https://www.muaustralia.org.au/history-of-mu-australia.html</image:caption>

      <image:title>Mrs Nora Noyes - A Generous Women</image:title>
<image:caption>Only a small amount is known about the woman who paid for the building of All Saints Anglican Church in Collie. Nora Octavia Busby was born on May 17, 1868 in Devon, England. She was the eighth child of Alexander Ellick Busby and Caroline Busby (born Cripps). It is interesting to note that four of Nora’s siblings (Alexander, Charles, Arthur and Constance) had been born in New South Wales where her parents had married in 1854. Nora’s father was Scottish by birth (1808) but had come as a teenager, with his parents and siblings to New South Wales in 1824. Alexander owned a sheep station in the Upper Hunter region with his brother William and was a member of the NSW Legislative Council from August 1856 to February 1858. The descendants of William Busby are still living in the Upper Hunter today. Alexander Busby and his family returned to England and a further 5 children were born (Louisa, Emily, William, Nora and Susan). In the Census of 1871, Nora (2 years old) was living in London with her Mother Caroline and five of her siblings: Alexander, Catherine, Louisa, Emily, William and Susan. William (Nora’s brother) eventually became a Priest. Alexander Busby died in 1873 when Nora was only 5 years old. By the 1891 Census Nora was 22 years old and living with her mother and three of her sisters (Louisa, Emily and Susan). Nora married Colonel Arthur Walter Noyes on 16 October 1907 (Nora was 39 and Arthur was 64) at St Johns Church Maddermaket, Norwich in Norfolk, England. But on the 20th of January 1908, Colonel Noyes died of Typhoid Fever and was buried in Cairo, Egypt. In 1912 Nora Noyes was attended All Saints Anglican Church in Margaret Street London where she heard the Bishop of Bunbury, the Right Reverend Fredrick Goldsmith, ask for help for his struggling new Diocese. Over the course of the following years Mrs Noyes donated a very large amount of money for the Church building, the Mural, the Dado, and the Candlesticks. In 1924 a memorial tablet of carved jarrah was dedicated by Bishop Wilson in the Baptistry of the Church. It commemorates Nora’s husband Colonel Arthur Noyes. Arthur Walter Noyes was a Colonel with the West Yorkshire Regiment joining the service in 1864. He served in New Zealand, Afghanistan and India but died while on his honeymoon tour in Cairo. The inscription reads: ‘This church is built to the glory of God and all the Saints triumphant, and to the dear and radiant memory of Colonel Arthur Walter Noyes Prince of Wales Regiment who died in Cairo, 20th January 1908. Rest eternal grant him O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him’. The Collie Mail reported the Dedication of the Memorial Tablet on 11 April 1924. Although never coming to Australia or visiting the Church she funded, she remained a keen follower of its progress. So much so that on her death on November 19, 1938 her family sent to the Church a chalice and paten of gold plate on solid silver, decorated with precious stones and taken from her personal jewellery. This is still in use in the Church today.</image:caption>
